Monde Intérieur: Issue One

A zine created during the COVID-19 pandemic as a means of exploring the uncharted territory of people’s inner worlds in a time of stasis.

What does “inner world” mean to you? Is it your home or your bedroom? The inner workings of your mind - your dreams, imaginings, moods? Or is it, perhaps, the most intimate corner of your private life?

Monde Intérieur explores the uncharted territories of people’s inner worlds as they navigate the age of COVID-19 with all its overwhelming grief and sparkling silver linings.

As we discovered in the creation of this zine, inner worlds can mean any and all of the above, as well as many more things on top. They can be clear as crystal to one person, whilst others find their own hard to grasp and define.

This is by no means a cross sectional examination of how the wider population have experienced the last few months. The people interviewed are all close friends from various facets of my life who I felt able to talk to about their feelings and learnings. We all, myself included, feel very grateful and fortunate to have been in the situations we were in.

I hope you enjoy getting a glimpse of the multitude of experiences this year has made way for, and that it allows you to reflect on your own. It is unlikely that we will have such a year again. At least, here’s hoping.
